2003 / UNTITLED (A line made by drawing)

drawing on folded paper, 2003
18x400 cm

This work is a poetic reference to a ‘A line made by walking’ (England 1967) by Richard Long and a play between the concepts of time, space and memory.
After retracing in ink the shape of all the people I met during a specific amount of time, I cut the drawing into equal pieces and presented the pieces together as a long stretch of folded paper following a loop pattern.
The purpose was to get the viewer to interact with the drawing by encouraging him to look through the folds of the paper in search of lines, forms, figures. What his memory is able to retain in the end from all these disparate 'discoveries' is the final act of my work.
